Kaviyoor Mahadeva Temple, Pathanamthitta

This is an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva located in a picturesque hillock in the Pathanamthitta district in the southern Indian state of Kerala. This iconic temple is currently preserved as a monument by the Archaeological Department.

Due to its similarity to the Pallava style of architecture, historians date this temple to the 8th century CE. Here, the presiding deity is represented in Shivalinga (a phallic representation of Lord Shiva) form. Though the chief deity is Shiva, the temple is popular for the sub-shrine dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The temple houses ancient stone engravings as well.
