Tali Mahakshetram

Tali Temple was built by Swamy Thirumulpad in the 14th century within the palace complex. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva is under the Trusteeship of the Zamorin of Calicut. The temple is built using a combination of laterite and wood, which is a remarkable feature of the Kerala style of architecture. The wall of the sanctum sanctorum is adorned with intricate brass-relief which is quite fascinating. The elaborated brass carvings on the wooden roof act as an add-on for the temple. The two storied sanctum-sanctorum has decorative granite mural wall paintings and sculptures of Lord Shiva’s court, and birds and animals. Besides, the temple also contains additional deities – Tali Ganapathy, Thevarathil Ganapathy, Thrumandhakunnu Bhagavathy – in the inner walls. The popular cultural and intellectual event of Kerala, ‘Revathy Pattathanam’ is organized every year in the temple premises. Because of its unique architectural beauty and the pious atmosphere, the Tali Temple has a special significance of its own.
